General FAQ

  • What is PalaceApp exactly?

    PalaceApp is comprised of a suite of web administered tools for civic users and local businesses as well as mobile applications for Android and iOS.

  • What does it cost?

    PalaceApp is completely free to visitors and residents. Local businesses sign-up and are charged a monthly subscription. A small fee will be taken from each payment made on the platform in future.

  • Why Crystal Palace?

    PalaceApp has been established by the founder of Loqiva, the company which has built the software. He lives in Crystal Palace and wanted to see if the technology could benefit his community first. Crystal Palace will help to refine the technology before it's rolled out in other areas.

  • Who owns the data?

    Our intention is to gift the PalaceApp platform to a community organisation in Crystal Palace after launch. This means the data will be owned and managed by the community on behalf of the community.

  • How do you make money?

    The short answer is that with PalaceApp we won't make money. Not only do we have to pay for the maintenance of the technology and hosting, there are additional fees for the use of Google's mapping services. Typically, a Council or a local BID would pay a basic license to cover these. So, in Crystal Palace, every local business subscription and transaction fee made on PalaceApp will go towards covering  costs.

  • Is this software in use anywhere else?

    The team behind PalaceApp and the Loqiva software have developed a number of platforms for local and national government. Crystal Palace is the first full installation of the Loqiva software. This will be followed by an installation in South Street Seaport in Manhattan, New York, in July 2019. We plan to be rolling out to at least another 5 locations in the UK this year.

Users FAQ

  • Is the PalaceApp smartphone app free to use?

    Yes, PalaceApp is completely free. All you pay for is your bandwidth.

  • What kind of data do you collect?

    PalaceApp needs to collect personal data to make recommendations to you. On sign-up, you explicitly tell us your name, age range, gender and postcode together with some information about your interests. After this, the app monitors your location. You can opt to turn this off in the normal way on our phone, but this will limit some of the features of PalaceApp.

  • How do you protect my privacy?

    The data that's displayed on PalaceApp is aggregated and anonymised. We hash and encrypt data in transit, and all the decisions made intelligently by the platform to serve you content are done so privately and autonomously. We have built our platform with the principal of owning and using data ethically. We work in your best interests in terms of privacy. All data is stored in the UK.

  • Can I delete my account?

    We hope you won't, but of course if you feel the need to delete your account, you can do so on the app at any time. When you delete your account then all the data personally identifiable to you is instantly erased from our system.

  • Will the smartphone apps be updated?

    Yes, we will be regularly updating the smartphone app with fixes and new features. Please download the latest version to receive the best experience.

Business FAQ

  • How can my business benefit from Loqiva?

    Simply sign up to PalaceApp and subscribe as a local business. PalaceApp is available to businesses located in the areas the platform serves. Your business address and credit card details are requested on sign-up to help verify you. We'll be advertising the sign-up link to businesses from the week beginning 24th June 2019.

  • How can PalaceApp help generate more revenue for my business?

    PalaceApp creates a local community of users that your business is able to market to. You are able to list your business, promote offers to particular demographic groups within the community, and set GeoAlerts to encourage footfall to your premises whilst people are local to you. You can also view analytics of your local area.


  • How much does it cost?

    Our goal is to help every participating local business to make a few additional sales each month as a minimum. We've been asking local businesses what the platform would be worth to them and have concluded that a fee of £12 per month (£10+VAT) seems fair and reasonable.

  • Can I try it out for free?

    Sure, when you sign up you get 28 days for free. If you choose to continue your subscription then we'll bill on the same day your free trial ends every month.

  • What happens if I stop my subscription or don't pay?

    If, for any reason, you stop your subscription or we don't receive payment, then we'll keep your account online for 2 weeks so you can change your mind or try making payment again. After this PalaceApp deletes your account, content and analytics information in line with its data policy.

  • Can someone come in and talk me through it?
